Connect, Empower, Celebrate and Advocate!
I'm a third-year Art + Writing student with a deep passion for art, music, and environmental advocacy. My current position at UWE’s Centre for Music, combined with my role as Lead School Rep for the School of Arts, has allowed me to connect with students across various schools and courses. This experience has deepened my understanding of our community's needs and has equipped me with the communication and organisational skills necessary to represent our diverse student body.
I'm a friendly, effective communicator which has supported running NEM Productions, a freelance visuals and music production company, and Wonder Waste, an eco-conscious creative collective. I produce electronic music and organise festival performances through Wonder Waste, aiming to ease climate anxiety and promote sustainability.
Goals:
1. Collaboration Across Campuses:
Many students feel isolation between Frenchay, Glenside, and City campuses. As VP Education, I will work to bridge this gap by organising mixer events, fostering collaboration and community among campuses. I'll host combined rep meetings, ensuring awareness of exciting opportunities, such as events at the Centre for Music and entrepreneurial initiatives through Student Ventures.
2. Celebrating Student Achievements:
I propose creating a bi-monthly magazine to showcase talent, achievements, and opportunities across the university. Currently, we lack a visually appealing platform to celebrate students' hard work. This publication will highlight artistic endeavors, engineering + scientific innovations, and contributions from other disciplines, strengthening our community and pride in one another's achievements.
3. Cost of Living:
The ongoing cost of living crisis has significantly impacted student attendance and well-being. I propose reintroducing a subsidised university bus service from central Bristol and affordable parking permits. Additionally, I will push for reduced prices at campus shops, ensuring students can access nutritious meals and maintain energy for their education.
4. Amplifying Communication:
I recognise the importance of effective communication regarding academic decisions. Recent misinformation during the proposed reorganisation of School of Art technical staff created anxiety among staff and students. I'm committed to ensuring essential updates affecting student life are accurately communicated.
5. Refreshing Student Representative System:
The current student rep system feels impersonal, particularly due to prevalence of online meetings, leading to disengagement. As VP Education, I'll create a dedicated Teams group for representatives to centralise contacts and resources, enabling efficient communication and collaboration.
Thank you for considering my candidacy. Together, let’s create a brighter future for our education!
