Why I’m the right candidate
Hi, I’m Hamid, a final-year Banking and Finance student at UWE. Sport has always been a big part of my life—I’ve competed in national-level athletics and led an Under-16 cricket team, learning leadership, teamwork, and resilience.
At UWE, I organised the Economics Field Trip 2026, where I was recognised as one of the Successful Coordinator for coordinating students, schedules, and activities. I am also an active Student Representative and part of the Student Consultation Panel, helping shape decisions that affect student life.
These experiences, along with my skills in planning, budgeting, and decision-making, equip me to create real opportunities for all students to get involved in sport, stay active, and improve wellbeing.
My key priorities if elected
1. UWE Pro-Path & Athlete Recognition
-
Athlete Spotlights & Awards: Celebrate achievements with monthly spotlights on SU socials and an annual Sports Achievement Awards Night for teams, individuals, and volunteers.
-
Pro-Path Workshops: Support student-athletes to turn leadership and sport experience into career opportunities through personal branding, sports media, and professional skills sessions.
-
Media Crew Expansion: Give students hands-on experience producing high-quality sports content.
2. Unity Games – Our Global Sports Festival
-
Trans-Cultural Sports: A week-long festival featuring sports from around the world alongside traditional favourites.
-
No-Pressure Zone: Beginner-friendly sessions, cultural food stalls, and music to make sport welcoming and fun for everyone.
3. Digital Sports – U-Connect
-
Sport Dashboard: Live-streamed matches, club highlights, and a “Find a Workout Buddy” feature to help students meet and connect.
-
Gamified Campus: Earn points for activity—from walking across campus to playing matches—redeemable for SU perks.
4. Active Minds – Sport for Mental Health
-
Social Prescribing: Work with UWE Wellbeing to offer stress-relief sessions, quiet gym hours, and walking groups.
-
Exam-Busters: De-stress activities and budget-friendly nutrition tips for training, matches, and exams.
5. Circular Kit & Accessibility Fund
-
Swap Shop: Donate, swap, and reuse sports gear to save money and reduce waste.
-
Equity Fund: Ensure no student misses out on sport because of cost—subsidies for memberships and kit.
Sport should be fun, inclusive, and supportive for everyone. Whether you’re an elite athlete or just trying something new, I want every student to feel connected and inspired.
