International Students' Officer Manifesto 2026-2027
"Your Voice, My Priority"
As an international BEng (Hons) Automotive Engineering student, I understand the real pressures of visas, housing, part‑time work and academic expectations in the UK. I am a consistent, hardworking and organised person who has led student clubs, worked in demanding UK workplaces and developed a student accommodation project. These experiences mean I know how the UK system works in practice, not just on paper. As International Students’ Officer, I will use this knowledge, leadership and lived experience to push for clear information, practical support and a stronger voice for international students across UWE.
1. Student accommodation support
I will work with the SU Advice Centre, Global Centre and accommodation services to make housing clearer and safer for international students. My focus will be on practical workshops and simple guides about contracts, guarantors, right‑to‑rent checks, safety and real living costs, plus better signposting to trusted platforms and awareness of common scams.
2. Practical life and admin support
I will campaign for regular “Life in the UK” sessions, online and on campus, covering GP registration, banking, transport, council tax and part‑time work rules. I will also support drop‑ins where students can get help with important forms, official letters and phone calls, so everyday systems feel less stressful.
3. Academic and language confidence
I will push for more visible academic skills support tailored for international students, including academic writing, referencing, assessment expectations, group work, and the use of UWE’s digital tools. I will promote peer‑led study groups and language practice spaces to build confidence to participate in class and ask questions.
4. Wellbeing and community
I will work with the SU and societies to support regular, low‑cost events throughout the year – not just during Freshers’ – that are welcoming for shy, busy or homesick students. I will prioritise clearer promotion of culturally aware wellbeing and counselling services, so students know what support is available and how to access it.
5. Work, careers and future planning
I will collaborate with Careers and Enterprise to strengthen guidance on UK‑style CVs, workplace culture, Graduate Route timelines and employer expectations, and to highlight international alumni stories, helping students see realistic next steps after graduation.
I am committed, approachable and ready to represent international students with honesty and determination so every international student at UWE feels informed, supported and valued.
