Stronger Voices. Better Education. Brighter Futures.
Goals
Creating a more balanced lifestyle for all students to alleviate stress and create more manageable workloads.
- Advocate for all courses to receive reading weeks and real breaks to prevent burnout.
- Improve communication among module leaders to avoid periods of overload and schedule conflicts.
Improving the academic support systems.
- Improve recognition for student work on all scales, from individual modules to entire colleges.
- Adjust reasonable adjustments to be more effective by adapting them to suit specific needs.
- Establish more accessible support through drop-in sessions to help students outside of timetabled teaching.
Strengthening students' voices to ensure everyone isn't just heard, but acknowledged, promoting inclusivity and engagement.
- Create a more effective feedback system that accepts anonymous submissions and integrates with Blackboard to increase student input.
- Raise awareness of feedback systems and university services so students know where to go when they need support.
Enabling fairer marking to ensure students' degree classification reflects their efforts.
- Improve feedback quality by requiring specificity so students can improve future work.
- Protest against group and single-output grades, so all students are judged on their individual efforts. No student should have their degree classification affected by someone else or a single period of time when they're struggling.
- Improve the appeal process for grades so that grades are investigated rather than dismissed when they seem wrong.
Support student employability and future initiatives to improve career opportunities for UWE's graduates.
- Investigate new ways to increase employability through events, tools, and other opportunities.
- Raise awareness for existing resources offered through the university.
About Me
I'm currently a final-year Architecture student, working part-time as a Tutor to afford living in Bristol. I'm from Cornwall, but had an international upbringing, experiencing many different educational systems and cultures. I believe the broad perspective and open-mindedness this taught me are essential to representing our university's diverse student population.
As someone who has experienced the frustration of feeling unheard, I am committed to making our voices count. I am an active member of the student council and student consultation panel, as well as a student representative. Representing my peers in so many ways has been exceptionally gratifying; however, I have been disappointed by how quickly student concerns are disregarded, and I'm determined to change that narrative. The experience I've gained from these roles is invaluable, providing insights into how the SU operates and how we can collectively improve our educational experience.
Thank you for considering my candidacy for the position of your VP of Education!
