BABAR HUSSAIN
FOR SU PRESIDENT 2026/27
“A President Who Listens. A Union That Delivers.”
My Vision for UWE
UWE is a diverse, ambitious, and rapidly growing community. As your SU President, I will work to build a Students’ Union that is supportive, fair and genuinely student‑led. My focus is on practical solutions, stronger representation, and improving everyday student life across all campuses.
1. Academic Success & Career Opportunities
Your degree is to empower, not to overwhelm.
• Advocate for fair assessments, flexible deadlines, and academic support for international and neurodiverse students.
• Expand mentorship networks connecting students with alumni and industry professionals.
2. Inclusion, Representation & Community
Every student should feel they belong at UWE.
• Celebrate diversity through cultural festivals, community events, and cultural networking.
• Establish a dedicated support hub for international students covering academics, visas, and integration.
3. Tackling the Cost of Living
No student should struggle to afford basic needs.
• Expand subsidised food options, affordable meal plans, and transport discounts.
• Advocate for extended tuition‑fee instalment plans to ease financial pressure.
4. Sustainability & Green Action
A greener UWE benefits everyone.
• Increase recycling points and reduce campus waste.
• Promote sustainable travel options and awareness campaigns.
• Support student‑led sustainability projects and workshops.
5. Safety & Student Life
University life should be safe, vibrant, and full of opportunities.
• Extend opening hours for key student spaces, especially during exam seasons.
• Improve campus safety with better lighting, security presence, and safe‑travel initiatives.
• Boost sports engagement with better marketing, casual tournaments, and inclusive fitness sessions.
Working With the National Union of Students (NUS)
As SU President, I will work closely with NUS to ensure UWE students benefit from national reforms and campaigns.
Student Finance Reform
NUS is campaigning to fix the student loan system for:
• Reducing interest rates
• Fairer repayment terms for graduates
Cost of Living Action
NUS continues to demand:
• Higher maintenance loans and grants
• Fair pay for young workers and apprentices
Student Welfare & Representation
Through its policy zones, NUS advocates for:
• Stronger equality, diversity, and inclusion policies
• Accessible and well‑funded education
