My name is Zarak Khan, and I am an international student from Pakistan, currently in my second year studying LLB at UWE Bristol. Like many international students, I came to the UK with hopes of gaining a quality education, building new experiences, and creating a better future. However, studying far from home also comes with challenges such as adjusting to a new culture, navigating university systems, and sometimes feeling far away from family and support.

These experiences have helped me understand the real issues that international students face. They have motivated me to stand for the position of International Students’ Officer, so I can represent your voice, advocate for your needs, and help create a more supportive and inclusive community for international students at UWE Bristol.

My Priorities

Stronger Representation

I will actively listen to international students and raise your concerns directly with the Students’ Union Executive and university leadership. Your voice deserves to be part of decisions that affect your experience at UWE.

 Better Support for International Students

Moving to a new country can be overwhelming. I will work to improve awareness and accessibility of support for:

• Academic guidance
• Visa and immigration information
• University services and student opportunities

 Building a Global Community

No student should feel alone while studying abroad. I will support:

• More cultural events and international meetups
• Collaboration between international student societies
• Activities that help students connect and feel at home in Bristol

 Career and Opportunity Support

I will advocate for more career support tailored for international students, including:

• Career workshops and CV guidance
• Networking opportunities with employers
• Information about internships and graduate opportunities

 Wellbeing and Adjustment Support

Adapting to a new country can affect mental wellbeing. I will promote awareness of wellbeing services and support systems so international students feel supported during their time at university.
