Candidate for the position of Vice President Societies and Communication
Putting UWE on the National Stage!
My name is Jonathan Wallcroft and I’m running to be the Vice-President for Societies and Communication. My goal is to ensure that the Students Union is a place where Students of all nationalities and religions can feel safe and respected so that they can fulfil their full potential.
I’ve been an active member of the student body for the three years I’ve spent at UWE and I’m eager to give things back. I’ve been the Chair of the Labour Society, the Vice-Chair of the Politics Society and the Vice-Chair of the Stand Up To Racism Society in the past year; during that time I’ve arranged for speakers from the Labour, Conservative and Liberal Democrat Party’s to come and speak at UWE, defended the Students Union in Parliament and campaigned within and without the Students union against islamophobia, anti-semitism and Racism. Because of that I know what it’s like both running a society and starting one.
However I’m aware that this is not everyone’s experience of the Students union. Since I was elected NUS Delegate this year I’ve held numerous meetings with students around the campus and a lot of people feel distant from the Students union and that it’s hard to engage. I’m hoping that we can change that with more public meetings and making a bigger effort to have the officers known around campus. I’m also developing plans to create a Facebook page that will act as a cohost for all Society events so that Students can go to one place to find a list of what’s going on on campus.
Thank you for reading I hope you’ll consider supporting me!
