Calling all students and staff! Want to make a difference while in lockdown? You can get involved with the Big Hog-Friendly Lockdown Litter Pick challenge.
Hedgehogs are covered in thousands of spines, making them vulnerable to becoming trapped in litter. Unfortunately, many hedgehogs die every year because of this. Taking part in this competition will clean up your community and save lots of hedgehogs.
This is happening across the UK and the university who collects the most rubbish wins the challenge! The winning university receives a free Hedgehog House complete with a bag of hedgehog food for their campus! All participants (whether from the winning team or not) will also receive a digital certificate from Hedgehog Friendly Campus in recognition of their efforts.
Did you know UWE Bristol is also a Hedgehog Friendly campus? We have been recognised by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society for our efforts to provide a sanctuary for wild hedgehogs Frenchay campus.
So whether you're on or off campus this year, you can make a difference and be hog-friendly!
To add your rubbish collection to UWE's efforts, send a photo of what you've picked up to thegreenteam@uwe.ac.uk.
Please be careful and safe when collecting rubbish. You should wash your hands thoroughly when returning home after picking up litter. Please also carry hand sanitiser with you when you are out. If there's anything you're not sure about picking up, leave it there. Check the latest Covid-19 government guidance an ensure you comply with it if taking part in this.
If you have have any questions, get in touch with thegreenteam@uwe.ac.uk.
