Wed 20 September 2023 17:00-18:00
Online via your Timetable or https://fsmevents.uk/uwe-climate/
WHEN:
20 September 2023, 17:00-18:00, held live online
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Join us to hear a conversation with Aja Barber on the impact of fast fashion and consumer culture on social justice and climate change.
Talking with Aja will be our own UWE hosts and a student who’s already taking her own action and has created podcasts about her experiences.
Join us in conversation with Aja Barber, a speaker and advocate for changing our approach to how we consume, particularly in relation to fast fashion. Aja joins us to lend her voice, experience and perspective highlighting the undercurrents of consumerism, colonialism and social inequality which are a major contributor to the climate crisis and the social and global injustice we are currently witnessing. In her book ‘Consumed’ Aja takes us deep into thinking about how social media and our cultural norms are promoting over consumption and what this means for those who produce the goods we’re buying and the impact on the environmental world.
This year UWE Bristol is bringing you climate education. Our launch is a conversation with Aja that explores these issues and perhaps will bring you an alternative perspective on the choices you make in day-to-day life, the actions you can take and the responsibility we all have to make change.
UWE Climate Education starts here. Join the conversation, hear the uncomfortable truths and find a place of action and community that can help you feel empowered to act in the face of the climate crisis.
