Fri 16 October 2026 18:00-21:00
Union 2, The Students' Union Frenchay Campus
Our last speed friending event was a raging success, and this year we're joined by our SU President (and last year's BME officer!) and our new BME officer to help kick-start our first-ever BME Speed Friending event! This year, we have a "Rep Your Flag" theme, so if you can, come along dressed in the colours of your county's flags or bring a flag with you!
Come alone or bring people with you and get ready to mingle!
Although this event is targeted at BME students, we welcome ALL UWE students to come and join us!
Once again, those who come along can get a free soft drink token (free drinks limited, first come, first served)
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Once you arrive, you'll receive your drink token, which you can redeem at the bar for a free, non-alcoholic drink. Once everyone is seated, you will be instructed on how the event will work, and then you will be given 3-5 minutes to speak to the person in front of you. Once the time runs out, everyone will move one seat over, and the process will repeat. There will be a couple of breaks throughout the night, and there will be prompt cards across the tables to help start conversations!
There will also be space upstairs for board games and chatting if you decide to take a break or would prefer a lower-pressure environment.
If you have any accessibility needs we should know about, please email us at SUCommunity@uwe.ac.uk.

This event is totally FREE - just show up on the day!
You can come alone to this event or bring friends with you!
This venue has step-free access both via the lift at the front of the venue and via the rear of the venue. If you need support on the day, find a Welcome Rep in yellow, ask for the event lead, or you can email us at SUCommunity@uwe.ac.uk and let us know in advance.
There is no pressure at all to dress up for this event; we want you to feel as comfortable as possible and to just enjoy yourself!
Once you arrive at Union 2, there will be Welcome reps in yellow T-Shirts who will greet you and let you know where to go for the event.
Although this event will be structured and it is recommended you join at the start of the event for instructions, if you arrive late, you can still easily join in on the fun!
If at any point of the evening you feel overwhelmed and need a quiet space, there will be a space upstairs where you can sit away from the event, and there will also be some board games if you would rather have a more relaxed environment to interact with other students.
This event is due to roughly finish around 9pm, but there is no pressure to stay until the end, and you are also more than welcome to stay after the event and continue chatting with others!
The Students’ Union at UWE welcomes all abilities/ disabilities, ages, ethnicities, and genders into our spaces. If you have any questions, concerns or additional requirements then please
let us know so that we can make your time at this event as comfortable as possible. For more information about this event, please contact: SUCommunity@uwe.ac.uk
