Reflexology is a holistic treatment based on ancient Chinese and Egyptian hand and foot therapy, dating as far as 4000 B.C. Fast forward to the 20th Century, when Eunice Ingham, a celebrated physiotherapist, created a series of reflexology techniques that helped thousands of people. It is based on the principle that there are areas on the feet and hands that are connected to your organs, glands and energy pathways via the Nervous System, thus when pressure is applied to these areas known as reflexes stimulates the movement of energy along nerve channels.Today, Reflexology is an effective way of improving mental and physical wellbeing. Each session usually lasts for just under an hour, to get the most out of the experience, be sure to note down any problem areas or aches and pains you have had lately. The initial aim is to fill out a quick form for me to know any concerns you may have about your overall health and to make sure that there is not a specific contra indications that could prevent the treatment from taking place.
Although Reflexology is suitable for most people please do not book on this date a taster session if you are pregnant as I will need a referral from your GP before I could give you a treatment. Though if you are trying to conceive this would be a very good opportunity to balance specific reflexes that are related to the reproductive system.Other restrictions include any recent surgeries, (first 3 months ), open wounds, strokes, heart attack and any undiagnosed lumps.
Benefits may include:
Ability to stimulate nerve function, increases energy, boosts circulation, induces a deep state of relaxation, helps to eliminate toxins from body, stimulates the CNS, prevents migraines, cleans up urinary tract conditions, speeds up recovery after injury or surgery.
Helps relieve sleep disorders, reduces depression, and relieves pain. Furthermore it can help ease the treatment of various cancer and even helps to soothe the pains of pregnancy, even those after the baby is born.
Reflexology also helps to improve body's metabolism, gives relief from stress, anxiety and insomnia and above all speeds healing.
This event is completely free and the session will last half an hour. To book a timeslot for this event, email feelgood@uwe.ac.uk with the name of the event, your name, and your desired timeslot.
