Late Night Do It Right Intern - Overview

The Students’ Union at UWE have an exciting paid job opportunity to be part of our Drug and Alcohol Harm Reduction Campaign during the Welcome period (September – October)!

This role will play a key part in delivering harm reduction interventions to help students be safe on a night out.

The role will be expected to;

• Supervise a group of students on the night to deliver safe night out interventions on and off campus
• Plan and organise the intervention with support from the Community Manager and Community Projects Coordinator at The Students’ Union
• Undertake harm reduction training from UWE’s Specialist Drug and Alcohol Advisor
• Write up a report of the campaign afterwards to be submitted towards the partnerships (UWE and the SU) Bi-annual Drug and Alcohol Accreditation.

The Students' Union at UWE are looking for a UWE Bristol student who is interested in drugs and alcohol harm reduction interventions to be our 2024 Late Night Do It Right Intern! 

The role involves:

• Plan and organise the intervention with support from the Community Manager and Community Projects Coordinator at The Students’ Union
• Liasing with accomadation staff 
• Working in both an office setting during the day and working in a nighttime accomadation setting 7pm-11.30pm (encouraging a safe night ahead for students) 
• Supervising 5-6 casual staff during the LNDIR shifts within accomadation and around campus/ city locations 
• Data/ engagement capture and report writing
• Undertaking training 

As an intern you will be responsible for supporting and supervising late night do it right reps, organising interventions around pre-drinking and accomadation supporting a responsible drinking culture for their night ahead and gathering the data for impact and evaluation monitoring during the length of the campaign.

Experience/Skills

• Confident, enthusiastic and approachable
• Can-do attitude
• Knowledge of campus life and available student support teams
• Previous customer service skills would be helpful
• Ability to supervise and motivate others
• Administrative experience 
• Report writing skills
• Interest in harm reduction would be useful but is not essential

Late Night Do It Right Intern shifts will be a combination of daytime office based shifts for administration and report writing, and  ‘late evening' shifts (usually 7.30pm-11.30pm) in a nighttime environment, for an average of 15-20 hours per week running late August to early October 2024.

Hours per week: 15-20 hours per week, across day time, evenings, late evenings and weekends 

Start Date: Late August 2024 - TBC

Rate of Pay: £12.60 per hour

*hourly rate of pay will be topped up to include holiday pay
