Who we are

We’re UWE's Propulsion society!

We’re students with a passion for rocketry, working on getting our hybrid rocket engine, Andromeda, developed and test fired.

What we’re doing

The core of the society is the Race 2 Space competition, an annual international student rocketry competition which takes place at the National Space Propulsion Centre at Westcott. 

The Future

We want to continue to iterate on the foundation that Andromeda I lay, and we'd love for you to be a part of that!

Why uwe Prop Soc?

Turn your interest in propulsion and space into practical engineering experience.

Build and test real hardware: Get involved in designing, manufacturing and testing propulsion systems and experimental aerospace projects — taking ideas from the drawing board into the workshop.

Learn skills beyond the classroom: Develop experience with CAD, CFD, FEA, electronics, manufacturing, instrumentation and systems engineering while working on practical projects.

Take part in something bigger: Contribute to our competition projects and work alongside a multidisciplinary team tackling genuine engineering challenges.

Meet the aerospace community: Connect with engineers, companies, academics and professionals through industry talks, events and opportunities linked to the wider aerospace and space sector.

Put your engineering to the test: Help design, build and improve systems for competition, gaining experience in teamwork, problem-solving, testing and project development.

• Designing and developing the injector system delivering fuel and oxidiser to the combustion chamber.

Nozzle: Ella & Ethan

• Designing and optimising the nozzle, efficiently converting gases into thrust.

Combustion: Larz & Ella

• Focusing on the combustion chamber and the processes that mix and burn the propellants.

Materials and Manufacturing: Ethan & Darius

• Selecting suitable materials and developing manufacturing methods, ensuring components are produced to specification.

• Securing sponsorships, funding, and partnerships while managing the team’s external communications.
