Who we are
The Bristol Engineering Competition Society (BECS) brings together engineering students from across all disciplines at the University of Bristol, united by a shared passion for engineering, innovation and problem-solving.
Whether you're studying Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, Electrical, Robotics or any other branch of engineering, BECS is a place to meet like-minded people, share ideas and put your skills to the test.
We believe that great engineering comes from collaboration. Our society provides a space where students can form multidisciplinary teams, learn from one another and tackle challenges that go beyond the classroom. No matter your experience or background, there's a place for you at BECS.
What we’re doing
This year, we're bringing students together to take on exciting engineering competitions, develop practical skills and learn from each other.
Our current project is the IMechE Engineering Challenge, where we're bringing together students to design, develop and deliver an engineering solution as a team.
Alongside competitions, we're running collaborative workshops and peer-led help sessions covering a range of engineering tools and techniques, including:
CAD: Developing 3D modelling and design skills.
FEA: Learning structural analysis and simulation techniques.
Engineering Design: Turning ideas into practical, working solutions.
Technical Skills: Sharing knowledge, software tips and problem-solving approaches.
Whether you're looking to develop an existing skill or learn something completely new, our sessions are designed to help you grow as an engineer.
The Future
We want BECS to become a hub for engineering competitions and collaboration at the University of Bristol.
Looking ahead, we're aiming to expand our involvement in national and international engineering competitions, build stronger connections between engineering disciplines and create more opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience.
We want to develop a community where students don't just learn engineering theory, but use it to design, build, compete and innovate.
Have an idea? Want to compete? Interested in learning something new?
Come and be part of BECS. Let's engineer something great together.
Turn your passion for engineering into practical experience. Whether you're interested in design, manufacturing, robotics, structures, electronics or anything in between, BECS gives you the opportunity to put your engineering skills to the test.
Compete in real engineering challenges: Get involved in exciting engineering competitions, work towards real-world design challenges and take ideas from the drawing board to practical solutions.
Develop skills beyond the classroom: Build experience in CAD, FEA, CFD, electronics, programming, manufacturing and much more through workshops, technical sessions and collaborative projects.
Learn from each other: Connect with students across different engineering disciplines, share knowledge and work together. Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced engineer, there's always something new to learn.
Be part of a multidisciplinary team: Meet like-minded students, form teams and combine different areas of engineering expertise to tackle challenges that would be difficult to solve alone.
Connect with the engineering community: Meet fellow engineers, engage with industry professionals and discover opportunities to develop your skills and explore different areas of engineering.
Turn ideas into achievements: Gain practical experience in teamwork, problem-solving, design and project management while competing, collaborating and creating something you're proud of.
