We, UWESpace are a society focused on Rocketry and Space - come get stuck in!
We are the UWE Space Society (or UWE SEDS), a student-run society that has astronomical plans for the future.
Our main form of communication is through our Discord server, so be sure to join to stay up to date with events and launches. Join our Discord.
Whether you're interested in Space, Rocketry or Space and Rocketry, this is the one for you.
In the 2023/2024 academic year, the main goal is to develop, build, test, and compete with a rocket capable of winning the esteemed UKSEDS in July 2024, a national-scale competition in which teams must carry a payload to the highest altitude possible with a medium power amateur rocket and bring it back down safely. We will also be doing a plethora of launches throughout the year, as we test different design types for our competition rocket, and also just to make stuff go whoosh! (or bang!).
On the astronomical side, we plan on bringing in speakers such as astrophysicists and people involved in the space industry to speak to and connect with you, the members. We are also in the progress of organizing various trips and socials, for example, a trip to the National Space Center in Leicester, or watching the upcoming Artemis missions!
This society is for students studying on all courses, in whatever year, with different levels of interest and experience. All are welcome! Please do not be discouraged by a lack of experience in either field; we are organizing a rocketry "lesson" soon, which will run everyone through the fundamentals of rocketry, and the software involved (no coding required - we promise!). If you're interested in being here, we're interested in having you.
We are always looking for sponsors, and they are always appreciated - so if you are looking to support our mission, please do not hesitate to contact us at any of the socials listed.
(These are the winners from 2021, the aim is to do what they did but go even higher.)
If you're looking to have a lot of fun (with combustibles), insight into the amateur rocketry scene, or if you're looking for something that looks cool on your CV, this is the one for you.
If you have any questions, please do contact us through any one of the socials attached, and we'll answer ASAP.
