Burn calories, sculpt and tone your muscles, increase your flexibility, improve coordination and grace, discover dance style, build your confidence and self-esteem. Pole dancing can do any and all of these things for you, so we would like to welcome you to join us to discover and achieve your fitness goals, whatever they may be. UWE Pole Society is one of the most warming, welcoming and friendliest societies. With over 100 members each year there are plenty of opportunities to meet new people and create new friendships. So what are you waiting for? Come and join us, we'd love to have you as a member!
Your membership allows you to the discounted class prices at Spin City Bristol and includes a free pair of HOTPANTS! What's more, our members get the opportunity to perform in National and Regional competitions, go on tour to abroad with us, win monthly prizes and so much more!
Make sure you join us on facebook UWE Pole Fitness as this is where most information about what we get up to in the year is posted. We have a number of taster sessions at the beginning of term so keep an eye out for when we post about these or sign up to our mailing list by posting your email address on the facebook page.
Don't forget to check out the intensive course for complete beginners to attend to get a fast-track introduction to pole held at the beginning of the year. The course will be held at the centre for sport on Frenchay campus by the committee instructors - this is a great chance to get to know the pole committee! Booking for this will be announced on the Facebook page in Freshers week, so make sure you do find us on Facebook!
Every Wednesday afternoon you can make your way to Spin City Bristol on Hotwells Road to be taught by highly trained, experienced and friendly instructors. You must book on to each class and the Wednesday society classes are only £5, discounted from the usual £10 evening classes, once you have bought your membership. Society classes (that's classes exclusively for UWE and UOB pole members) will run from 1pm-5pm on Wednesday afternoons, which should be free in your timetable for you to attend a sport. There are also a number of evening classes with a few specific instructors (not all) whose classes you can attend if you can't make Wednesday afternoons at the discounted price - you will need to book on to these classes after 12 pm that day, first come first served.
We want to introduce you to our lovely committee, who will ensure that you are well taken care of and that you have plenty of events to look forward to!
Thanks to the National University Pole Association there will be two rounds to the university pole competitions: regionals and nationals! Just like in those classic cheerleader films, we will be competing at a regional level in the UWE founded South West University Pole Competition, and the winners and runners-up from all the regionals will be entered into the National University Pole Competition - EXCITING MUCH!!!!
These competitions are the best way to express yourself in a solo performance, or give your all on stage in a fun self-managed group performance! Keep an eye on the Facebook page around October to see when the auditions open for participation - we'd love to see you try out with us! Prizes for these competitions have included in the past: your very own freestanding x-pole, a professional pole photo shoot, and vouchers for pole dance websites to get yourself some new kit or grip!
In 2014 UWE group performance won with a Michael Jackson themed dance and won a professional photo shoot with Millie Robson, an acclaimed Pole Dance photographer. Also, in 2017 UWE SWUPC group won with a Beyoncé megamix theme! Here are pictures of the lovely groups!
Every sport needs a kit...
...and ours is cute AF! We don't sell clothing throughout the year though, so you've got to keep up to date with what's on the Facebook page to see when we will be taking orders! The colours change each year so make sure you're up to date!
UWE Pole has some pretty cool history too ...
