The President of an activity is the leader, who oversees all of the activities within the sport or society. The President will need to provide support, advice, and guidance to the other committee members throughout the academic year. Probably the most challenging role on the committee, you’ll need experience of what the sport/society does, and a strong belief in the aims of the sport or society.
The Vice President supports the President and ensures that all functions are carried out effectively and efficiently. They may also take on specific tasks assigned by the President and serve as a representative of the society or sport.
The Treasurer is responsible for managing the club's finances, ensuring that budgets are adhered to, and preparing financial reports.
This role is mandatory for all sports clubs and specific societies. The Equipment & Safety Officer is responsible for overseeing the condition of equipment, ensuring safety standards, and managing equipment renewals and checks.
This role is a direct contact for students who might find it difficult to get involved. It focuses on inclusivity and organising social events to increase participation and foster a welcoming atmosphere.
This role is responsible for organizing events and fundraising activities for the club. The officer works closely with the Participation and Equality Officer to ensure all events are inclusive and accessible.
Groups communicate primarily through email, social networking sites, and the club webpages. It’s not difficult to set up a website or manage the webpages. Contact Student Media for more information. Every club needs publicity – from dinners to hoodies to fundraisers to tour. It’s a great way to recruit members, network with other activities, organize a huge and exciting event, and generally create a buzz around your club.
As UWE has three satellite campuses, it is really important for societies and sports clubs to engage with all students across all three campuses! The role of Glenside/City Campus officers is to engage with students from the satellite campuses and coordinate activities for those students! We recommend that these positions are fulfilled by students already studying at either Glenside or City Campus.
It is vital that all clubs and societies are being as sustainable as possible. It is the role of the sustainability officer to oversee this, and ensure all club and society activities are run in accordance with our sustainability guidelines. The sustainability officer will also oversee and engage with the Greener Futures initiative.
Team captains are appointed in accordance with the selection policy by coaches and not elected. The position of captain is given to those athletes whom the rest of the team respect and trust. It is also expected that captains maintain control in pressurized situations and be the model of excellence for their teammates.
