Every year, the clocks go back – and every year, women’s worlds shrink. When the clocks go back , millions of women across the UK will once again see their world get smaller as the nights get darker. Safety concerns affect where they go, when they go, who they go with and whether they can be active outdoors at all.
In fact nearly three-quarters (72%) of women change their outdoor routines during winter. This impacts women’s health and reinforces the gender activity gap, which sees half a million fewer active women than men.
So in response clubs across the country organise walks, jogs and runs with as many lights as possible to shine a light on the issue.
Since launching in 2023, Let’s lift the curfew has grown into a nationwide movement, with last year more than 13,000 people taking part in over 390 activities across the country.
In light of this, UWE Athletics is inviting all students to come and walk, jog, or run together, around the same loop with as many lights as possible, to shine a light on this issue. Be as bold and bright as possible and let's try to work together to one day lift this curfew forever.
