Purpose of the post:

• To assist the Retail manager in the day to day operation of the students union Shops and to act as deputy in the absence of the Commercial Manager (Retail)
• To work collectively and professionally with all colleagues across all shop departments and retail outlets.

The position shares with all other staff positions a general purpose which is:

• To work collectively for the attainment of the goals of the Union as expressed in the Constitution, Policy Book, and Strategic Plan and through the decisions of its committees.
• To ensure that all best-selling areas receive prioritisation.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Leads Retail Supervisors’ and Retail Assistants to ensure all shop duties are carried out.
• Carry out the daily reconciliation of takings, investigate and communicate any discrepancies to the Retail Manager in the first instance.
• To assist the Commercial Manager (Retail) to recruit, train, develop, coach, involve and motivate all retail staff.
• To carry out, as directed by the Commercial Manager (Retail), the annual appraisals of specified staff and to take a proactive approach to the development and performance management of those staff.
• To assist the Commercial Manage (Retail) to continuously analyse and implement measures for delivering improvements to the operation.
• Continuously review and amend where appropriate, product lines to ensure that the product range meets customers existing and future needs.
• To liaise with suppliers and other relevant organizations to ensure that the Union receives the highest quality products at the most economical cost.
• To ensure customer service levels are continually reviewed and improved so as to exceed customer’s expectations.
• To be aware of all relevant Health and Safety Requirements and ensure they are compliant at all times.
• To ensure all security procedures are carried out in accordance with SU policies.
• Liaison with all other retail outlets.
• Overseeing the general operations of the Retail Assistants.
• Adhere to the opening and closing procedure.
• Working within guidelines provided by the Commercial Manager (Retail), ensuring appropriate level of staffing is available.
• Instruction and coordination of frequent stock takes.

Salary: £21,296.00 /year
