The Students' Union is seeking a Catering Assistant (Term-Time) on a permanent basis.
Catering Assistant (Term-Time)
Purpose of the Post
To assist the Commercial Manager (Licensed Trade), Assistant Manager (Licensed Trade) and Assistant Manager (Catering) in the day to day operation of the Students’ Union kitchen(s).
The position shares with all other staff positions a general purpose which is to work collectively for the attainment of the goals of the Union as expressed through the Constitution, Policy Book, Strategic Plan and the decisions of its committees.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
1. Unlock and lock bar/kitchen
2. Placing of daily food orders
3. Checking deliveries ensuring timely and appropriate storage of goods, in line with Food Hygiene guidelines
4. Prepare food for consumption, adhering to portion control guidelines and set presentation standards
5. Assist the Commercial Manager (Licensed Trade), Assistant Manager (Licensed Trade) and Assistant Manager (Catering) with menu development
6. Ensure cleaning schedule is completed
7. Assist in the bar if directed by line manager to do so
8. Observe all Health and Safety and Food Hygiene requirements, for example the recording of refrigeration temperatures
9. Ensure daily completion of opening and closing checklists, and completion of Safer Food Better Business diary
10. Implement security procedures, for example the secure storage of stock
11. Assist with the training and coaching of the staff team
12. Where necessary, act as deputy to the Catering Supervisor, and:
13. Any other reasonable duties as directed by the Commercial Manager (Licensed Trade)
Supervision and Work Planning
The post-holder will receive day to day support from the Assistant Manager (Licensed Trade) and Licensed Trade Team but will be expected to work on his/her initiative for routine tasks
Special Notes and Conditions
The position requires that the incumbent will on occasion work irregular hours involving late night and weekend working (may include early and late shifts)
The post-holder may be required to undergo training.

Additional Information
Rate of Pay: £18,231 (pro rata).
Holiday Entitlement: 27 days, as well as Bank Holidays and Closure Days (pro rata).
Hours per Week: 37 hours per week during term time (32 weeks over the year).
Duration of Role: Permanent.
Location: Frenchay Campus. However, the post-holder may be required to work at, or from, any of the Union’s establishments.
