Purpose of the Post:

To be responsible for providing support for the provision, development & monitoring of student involvement in Students’ Union activities.  To coordinate the delivery of the sports club & the British Universities & College Sport [BUCS] programme.  To ensure the development of student activities, specifically sport, volunteer recruitment & the Varsity Series.  To manage and support the Opportunities Department assistants to facilitate and provide administrative support to the Opportunities Team.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support the Students’ Union VP Sports & Health in coordination & development of TeamUWE & all sports.

   

• To manage the full delivery logistics of the BUCS individual championship programme, alongside overseeing the BUCS Team Championships & national equivalent to ensure its effective & efficient operation.

   

• To manage the Students’ Union [TeamUWE] & UWE Centre for Sport’s representative, recreational & uniform clothing contract.

   

• To ensure the compliance of all equipment, safety policies, procedures, rules & regulations.

   

• Line manage the Club Coordinator & the Opportunities Department student staff to ensure the effective & efficient delivery of The Students’ Union sport as well as the administrative function of the department.

   

• To be responsible for the monitoring and tracking of the budgets allocated to the remit of the role (e.g. BUCS Individual Championships, Student Staff). Operating within the agreed financial regulations and procedures.

   

  Other Duties & Responsibilities:

   

• Provide administrative & organisational support, advice & training to students involved in Sport within the Students’ Union.

   

• Alongside the staff & officer team develop & deliver the student leadership programme.

   

• To coordinate & oversee the development of all individual sports, specifically sports volunteer recruitment & development.

   

• Develop & promote sports activities, events & programmes to ensure high levels of participation.  Collate project data & feedback, including participation figures.

   

• Work in conjunction with Students’ Union & University staff to develop & link to local schemes which enable students to take National Governing Body [NGB] & other relevant equivalent qualifications.

   

• Develop effective working relationships with relevant university departments & external organisations, in particular BUCS, NGB’s, local authorities & charities.

   

• Coordinate the promotion of Students’ Union sports achievements in the Students’ Union media.

   

• Compile detailed information illustrating patterns & trends in Students’ Union activities.

   

• In collaboration with staff develop funding bids for Students’ Union & the sports within it.

   

• To act in accordance with the policies & procedures laid out in the staff handbook.

   

• Any other reasonable duties as direct by the organisation.

   

Supervision and Work Planning:

The post holder will receive regular supervision from the Opportunities manager, however will be expected to work on his/her own initiative for routine tasks. Given the nature of the post, occasional weekend and evening work will be required to achieve the desired outcomes.

Skills & Experience:

Essential:

• High standard of education, A Level & above
• Proven direct experience of delivering high quality support in University sport.
• Managing a team.
• Meeting competing deadlines in a busy environment.
• Liaising/networking with a diverse range of people
• Initiating, organising and promoting student sport.
• Experience of organising and delivering training
• In depth knowledge and understanding of the current issues, needs and expectations of students in higher education.
• Ability to research, collate and disseminate complex information.
• Fully proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, organisational and time management skills.

Rate of Pay:  £26,114

Grade: 5.1

Hours per Week:  37 hours per week, working 5 out of 7 days.

Holiday:  27 Days + Closure Days & Bank Holidays ‘pro rata’

Location: Based at Frenchay Campus- Bristol

The postholder may be required to work at, or from any of the Union’s establishments (Bower Ashton Campus, Glenside Campus etc)
