Student Unions at both Bristol University and the University of West of England have unanimously chosen local youth homelessness charity 1625 Independent People (1625ip) to benefit from funds raised during the 2015 Varsity Series.
Chief Executive of 1625ip, Dom Wood said:
“I have studied at both great institutions; we have built great relationships with both of them over the years and are really pleased they have chosen to support vulnerable young people around Bristol.
It’s particularly poignant because we support many young students who get into difficulties, especially those living away from home for the first time. So it’s a great opportunity for us to promote our services within the Universities. We’re really looking forward to the games – but doubt we’ll be picking sides this year!”
UBU Sport and Student Development Officer, Alyx Murray-Jackman said: “1625ip is such a brilliant charity to be supporting this year. They are so dedicated to the young people they work with and it’s a pleasure to be a part of that. It’s great for students to be able to give something back to the city we all get so much out of. We hope local people will come along and watch the events.”
UWESU Vice President Sports and Health, Roisin Greenup said: “Charity and community are at the very heart of the Varsity Series and we’re delighted to be supporting 1625 Independent People through the events and matches this spring. The charity was chosen by students, who were inspired by the work that 1625 Independent People do to support disadvantaged young adults in the local area. We’re looking forward to donning our sports kits, dusting off the trophies, and rekindling some friendly rivalry in aid of such a worthwhile cause.”
