Community Garden Volunteering Sessions are back! They will be happening every Wednesday from 25th February - 25th March and will be run by the Sustainability Committee., who want to restore the Community Garden and get vegetables growing there. The sessions align with their capamign objective to engage students with on-campus green spaces. Everyone is welcome, even if you have never gardened before - come and have a go at something new!

Session Details

The first session will involve clearing and weeding existing beds in order to prerpare them for planting.  The committee will meet students outside the Frenchay SU at 2pm and everyone will walk down to the community garden together. All equipment, hot drinks and snacks will be provided, but please ensure that you wearing clothing and shoes appropriatee for muddy and potentially wet conditions.

The Community Garden is located just a three minute walk from the SU and is wheelchair accessible.

Why You Should Get Involved

Food miles - play your part in reducing our carbon footprint, by reducing the distance between source and plate, and cutting down on greenhouse gases released during transport.

Health benefits - spending time outside is known to be good for both physical and mental health, and reduces cortisol. Get some exercise, and escape from city life for a while in the peaceful Community Garden, which is situated in a quiet corner of the campus.

Learn new/improve existing skills - being able to grow your own food is great skill to have, as it is a big step towards being self-sufficient, which can be very satisfying. Learning new skills has also been proven to be beneficial for mental wellbeing.

Meet new people - there's no better way to build a community than through a shared sense of accomplishment! Come along and spend the afternoon with like-minded people. Seeing what you have achieved together at the end of the sessions will be very rewarding.

Free snacks and hot drinks - these will be given to all volunteers!
