Blog post from Scarlet, VP Community & Welfare.
The event Speed Mating was run for the first time back in February as a trial event and just recently launched for the first time at the beginning of May. Speed Mating was set up for students to find their ideal flatmate(s) in person rather than over social media. The event catered for somebody looking for a flatmate or a group of students looking for an extra person to live with. Students had 4minutes to speak to an individual or group until moving on to speak to the next person.

We found Ahmd a group of flatmates and here is what he said;
“I believe it was very helpful and important - Speed mating for home populating. I think we need more events like that. I would encourage people to participate in such events as it's considered a good opportunity to meet people who have already got houses and searching for mates or people who are trying to buddy up and find a house”
Potential student matches speaking with each other
At the end students stayed to socialise with their new potential flatmate which was very positive to see. Rating cards were filled out by groups and individuals and then submitted in order to find out their perfect match.
The event was very successful with over 50 students attending in February and over 80 people in May. Most people found a match which was great too and after reading successful feedback I’ll be setting up more events like this over the summer months if it is needed. In August students go through clearing and find out whether they are accepted into halls or not. So by setting up another Speed Mating event will help a new bunch of freshers find a place. It will help current students fill there extra rooms if someone has dropped out to.
