Featured society, win at the inter-uni Nepalese dance competition
Congratulations to UWE Nepalese Society who won at the Inter-Uni Nepalese Dance Competition. Here Manisha, UWENS President talks about the experience of the dance competition.
As President of UWE Nepalese society, I’m genuinely delighted to announce that we won the 4th Inter-Uni Nepalese Dance Competition organised by Kingston University Nepalese society on 3 of June 2016 in the Empire, Aldershot. There were 5 other universities participating and they all were equally amazing. In my view, what made our performance different from others was that we had a storyline representing one of the most important festival of our country, Tihar, and also included different traditional dances within.
Initially, it was quite a challenge for us to fit in everything as we only had maximum of 8 minutes for our routine. However, we made it possible by working together from creating dialogues, doing voice over to merging songs and choreographing which ended up in a fun and exciting performance. On the day of competition, we were very glad to see many other people who came there to support us. Being the first time participating in a competition, some of us were little nervous in the beginning, but with huge amount of cheer and encouragement for audiences we all gave our best on the stage and earned really great compliments from all the judges. It felt really great to be recognized for something that we worked so hard on. It was an absolute ecstatic moment for us all when we were announced the winner and I don’t think it will ever be forgotten. This has given us a great platform to represent UWE in the Nepalese community, mainly to the youths who aspire to go to UWE in the present and future.
It’s really impressive that this is our second win in the competition after the one in 2014. As a winner, UWE Nepalese society will be running the 5th Inter-Uni Nepalese Dance Competition in 2017. I’m really excited and looking forward to it and wish the best for the next committee members.
