RAG needs you to join the Refugee Crisis Campaign!
Desperate families have no choice but to risk their lives to flee war and persecution.
UWE RAG urgently needs your help: donate resources, your time or raise funds.
We’re all aware of the unfolding refugee crisis affecting Europe. The Students’ Union at UWE and UWE RAG have partnered with the University to pull together to help some of those affected.
From Friday 11 September until Friday 25 September, you can bring needed items to The Students’ Union on Frenchay, Glenside and Bower Ashton campuses.
During the week of 28 September we will sort through the donations and they will be sent abroad through CAL-AID and/or other aid agencies supporting refugees in Europe.
What donations are needed? Most urgently needed currently is men’s clothing (including shoes, trainers, socks, warm clothing, including woolly hats and scarves) and items for warmth and shelter (including sleeping bags, tents, blankets and canvas sheets). An infographic is available with the full list.
We will need volunteers to help us sort and pack donations. If you would like to volunteer an hour or so during the week of 28 September, please contact SUVolunteering@uwe.ac.uk.
You can donate money via UWE RAG’s online fundraising page: https://www.justgiving.com/UWERefugeeCrisis/
UWE RAG and the University have chosen to support the Red Cross, internationally and locally in Bristol. The funds will be split equally between:
1. The two international Red Cross campaigns, one for Syria, one for Europe
2. The Red Cross Bristol Refugee Service - locally supporting refugees in our City of Sanctuary. They also and sponsor the work of Bristol Refugee Rights through initiatives like the Refugee Women of Bristol group, for example
