With Kerry McCarthy, MP for Bristol East
I wanted to try and engage students with politics in a completely new way. I use Snapchat quite a lot to take silly selfies with my friends; so why not bring an MP to Snapchat for some questioning I thought? Having asked all Bristol MPs to take part, one so far has been up for giving it a go!
Start off with a wave selfie.
Being the first Question Time ever over Snapchat, it was understandable to get this response from Kerry McCarthy, MP for Bristol East.
So what does a Bristol MP think of Bristol and what would she change?
(Attempting to hold a ‘Our Voice, Our Choice’ prop)
Straight back to us with another response, Kerry said:
We know transport is a big issue for students!
On the flip side, what is the best thing about Bristol?
Only a city that would turn one of its main streets into a waterslide would get this response…
What did other students ask Kerry?
A key issue, but what would Labour do?
How about Climate Change?
“Ambitious targets” says Kerry…
How about teaching? How do we make sure teaching is the best it can be for young people?
Kerry is a big fan of independent learning, sending back a snap saying:
But the big question and one of the reasons why I brought an MP to Snapchat – why should students care?
Kerry is clear on this as she sends her response:
Politics really can change the world, but you need to be registered to vote to even make a difference! Registering to vote is easy and takes minutes (www.gov.uk/register-to-vote)
Once you’re registered, why should you vote?
Kerry once again is clear.
Who you vote for in May is up to you!
Each party has their own policies, which you should check out!
So that concluded some of the questions sent to Kerry McCarthy MP over Snapchat. Perhaps more Members of Parliament from Bristol will take us up on the offer we sent to them?
