Hey Greenies! Last week, our very own Green Team put on a load of events all about sustainability and ways to get involved on campus. We were delighted to have events at ALL THREE of our amazing campus sites, and are even looking to do some events in the city centre next month. Did you make it to any of our events? Do you have ideas for an event YOU want to see and be a part of? Let us know at email@example.com and we will get planning!
The SU Bar is back at it again with a Green Week edition of Meatless Monday. We heard your feedback from the last Meatless Monday, and we INCREASED our range of items on offer and had 25 different plant-based menu items at a 20% discount. Now THAT’S a reason to treat-yo-self. Special celebrity guest Wagamamas was also outside The Bar offering up free vegan tasters. Kermit was wrong it IS easy bein’ green! Feeling inspired? Check out a whole host of easy and student budget-friendly plant-based recipes here!
People and Planet’s Sweatshop Free Workshop
Thanks for coming to our workshop, which was all about how to design and mobilise a campaign about sweatshop-free labour in the electronics industry! This campaign ensures that UWE Bristol and The Students' Union electronic purchases are made ethically, with social justice and basic human rights at the cornerstone of production. UWE Bristol and The Students' Union still haven’t joined Electronics Watch, an alliance that ensures these ethics are followed – want to help change that? Join us and help to get this campaign off the ground! Find out more about the campaign here!
Bring Your Own Bowl (BYOB) – Bake off Edition
Sweets, treats, and delicious delights! This BYOB was Bake Off themed, 147 of you brought your own bowls for yummy desserts made from surplus food from the COOP and Boston Tea Party! Stay tuned for the next BYOB that’ll have a seasonal twist…
We were so happy to have had so many Glenside green teamers join us for this session! Despite the wet weather, our gardeners worked hard turning over beds and got them ready for soft fruits and other lovely fruit and veg. Did you know we have FREE allotment spaces at our Frenchay garden, where you can grow your own fruit and veg? Drop into one of our fortnightly Wednesday sessions to learn more! On 30 November you lucky ducks are being treated to a hedgehog action day, for more information click here!
De-Stress Fest at Glenside
Lucky for us, World Mental Health Day landed in the second half of Go Green Week, and we had the good fortune of spending it at Glenside. We looked after the wellbeing of our fellow greenies with free massages, stress balls, water bottles, nakd bars and fruit. We also took YOUR suggestions of ways to keep relaxed in stressful situations. Some of our favourite ideas include:
- Getting outside in green spaces
- Be on time
- Communicate more with friends
Green Gathering Frenchay
First Frenchay Green Gathering – check! Free pizza – check! Loads of campaign ideas – check! The first Frenchay edition of the Green Gathering this year was a success with lots of focused engagement alongside a sustainability treasure hunt and blue-sky campaign mapping activity. We meet monthly and hope to see you at our next Green Gathering on the 14 November!
Green Gathering Bower
Ah, Bower Ashton, you’ve done it again! More than 60 of you lovely creative students stopped by to visit The Green Team to give us your event ideas and suggestions for increased action on your campus. We enjoyed delicious vegan cakes and herbal teas, and now have some serious event suggestions to work from. Some popular ideas were –
- Install a plant wall/vertical garden on campus
- A community garden!
- More sustainability workshops, talks, and events at Bower
