The book swap at The Students’ Union is a wonderful way for book lovers to exchange their favourite reads with others, promoting a sense of community and sharing the joy of reading. Participants can bring books they've enjoyed and leave with new literary adventures to embark upon.

We have the following events coming up for Book Swap October:

• Tuesday 10 – Thursday 12 October - Make Book Bunting & Badges: Come to the Students’ Union to make book-bunting out of old books to give them a new life, bring in your own book or choose from our selection! Find more information: https://www.thestudentsunion.co.uk/ents/event/12690/

To help celebrate Black History Month our President and Vice Presidents and part time officers have kindly shared their beloved book recommendations, and we’ve bought some copies to add to our Book Swap collection so you can check them out too.

• Kolawole Samuel Olure – President: “I am recommending “Things Fall Apart” by Chinua Achebe. It’s a simple story of a "strong man" whose life is dominated by fear and anger, Things Fall Apart is written with remarkable economy and subtle irony. Uniquely and richly African”.

• Fayaz Kareem – VP Community & Welfare: My all-time favourite book "The Museum of Innocence" by Orhan Pamuk. The story takes place in Istanbul and dives deep into the life of Kemal Bey, a wealthy man who becomes utterly obsessed with Fusun, a distant relative working as a shop girl”.

• Aengus Miralto – City Campus Officer: “I thoroughly enjoyed reading '21 lessons for the 21st Century' by Yuval Noah Harari, which challenged my personal beliefs about life in 2023”.

• Bethel Ekaette – VP Societies & Communication: “One of my all-time favourite books is "Half of a Yellow Sun" by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. This captivating novel provides a deeply immersive experience into the lives of its characters during the Biafran War in Nigeria”.

Why should you take part in our Book Swap competition?

UWE students should swap books because it enables them to access a wide range of academic resources and leisure reading material, fostering a culture of learning, sharing, and intellectual growth among peers. Hopefully we will see you soon!
