Freshers 2020 announcement!

Right, so you’ve got your results, you’ve accepted your place at UWE Bristol (ranked 7th in the UK for student satisfaction, just saying) and you’re now probably thinking about starting university – and, of course… Freshers!

Now we all know 2020 has been quite the year and this does mean that your university experience is going to start slightly differently. But that doesn’t mean that it won’t be great. We know that you will have fun - it’s just going to be different.

We have been working on a range of physical and virtual events, which all aim to get you chatting to other students and making new friends. We’ve got music, quiz nights, virtual FIFA tournaments, a whole load of competitions and more to be announced!

As well as that, we’ve also got our Freshers’ Fair - and in true 2020 style, it is going virtual. Now, our Freshers’ Fair is a pretty big deal, it’s one of the biggest in the country (that was us bragging) and is always one of the highlights of our Welcome Programme. Taking place on Friday 9 October, the fair is open to ALL students and is FREE! Register for Freshers' Fair here!

While we may not be coming to you in our normal style, that doesn't mean you won't get the chance to learn about everything on offer at The Students’ Union. We will still have our sports clubs, we will still have our societies, and, yes, we will still have freebies. We have also got some of your favourites confirmed to attend already - including Domino’s.

The Fair will give you a chance to try new things and connect with other students. We’ve chosen a great app called Whova (don’t just take our word for it, check out the reviews) and we cannot wait for you to experience Freshers’ Fair in a whole new way!

The app Whova (download it now) lets you do everything that you would normally do at Freshers’ Fair. You can go to stalls, bag some discount codes, watch livestreams from our sports clubs and societies and maybe even get some freebies. It also lets you create a profile, where you can add pictures and your social media accounts and get chatting to other students.

You can also turn Freshers’ Fair into a flat social! Just get your laptop, find an HDMI cable, hook it up to your TV and enjoy the Fair with your pals! Freshers’ Fair is for ALL students, whether you’re fresh out of college or sixth form, a returning student or coming to university as a mature student - we want everyone to get involved.

The Students’ Union President, Augusta Chidinma Nnajiofor commented: “I cannot wait to welcome all of our new and returning students to this year’s Virtual Freshers’ Fair. Freshers’ Fair is a great way to start getting to know other students, find a new passion and learn about everything on offer at The Students’ Union. Although this year is going to be different, we are so excited about using Whova and seeing you all experience it in this new way.”

Everyone who signs up for Freshers’ Fair is automatically put into a draw to win a GoPro.

So, whatever your set up, wherever you are, join us at this year's virtual Freshers' Fair – it’s going to be great!
