UWE Centre for Sport was transformed into a playground of Ultra-violet for the Glow in the Dark sports event.
For one night only, this December, the UWE Centre for Sport was transformed into a playground of Ultra-violet for the Glow in the Dark sports event.
The lights were switched off at the end of the day, and it was only then that the games began. The glow bugs crept out of the shadows and transformed the sports hall into an abyss of UV light, glow in the dark & fluorescent rave-tastic music!
The event, a collaborative project by the Student’s Union and The Centre for Sport, aimed to reach out to student’s who currently don’t engage in any form of physical activity within the University. Roisin Greenup, Vice President of Sports & Health at the Students Union said “Following feedback from recent surveys about sports participation, we realise students have very hectic lives, and often face multiple barriers to taking part in sport whilst enjoying their time at university. The aim of this event is to provide an opportunity for students to get involved in something fun, and active without making any time or financial commitments.” The sports hall was solely lit by black lights, the courts lined out by UV glow tape and plenty of hit music thundering from the sound system. Students and staff alike had the choice of sports to give a go, from Volleyball, short-tennis, table tennis and badminton.
The event was a huge success, with 50 people coming along to the evening, and everyone looked the part in their white UV glowing clothes, glow sticks and UV face paint. Feedback was fantastic, and students are looking forward to the next event. We’ll be looking to adapt the evening next time, with some additional activities, so look out for black light dodgeball - coming to UWE soon!! Overall a huge success, so put the date in your diary for the next UWE Glow Games, due to take place on Monday 2nd March for a fun, friendly and FREE evening of Glow in the Dark Sports!
