Han Morgan
The Part-Time Officers are students (just like you!) who volunteer their time alongside studying to raise student voice, respond to issues, and ensure that UWE students are at the heart of our decision making here at the Student’s Union.
What a year it has been!
We’ve now bid a fond farewell to our amazing Executive Committee of 2025/2026. These were our 5 Full-Time Sabbatical Officers, as well as the 9 Part-Time Officers who’ve represented your student experience this year. What have they accomplished?
Black Minority Ethnic Officer- Mo Ebengho
As students may already know, Mo has had a very busy year! As your Black Minority Ethnic Officer, they were the driving force behind The Black History Month Hall of Fame, organising every aspect: from food to music! They also hosted the Girls Night In panel in collaboration with the Women’s Welfare Officer, Zarabel, and VP Sports and Health, Anya. When they get a break from working on events for you to enjoy, they’ve been advocating for Black, Brown and Racialised students in careers and personal development spaces, as well as signposting them to UWE services and supporting them through university processes.
Mo has recently begun their new role, as the Students’ Union President. They’ll be continuing their advocacy in 2026/2027 as the Chair of the Board of Trustees, the Chair of Executive Committee, and a member of UWE’s Board of Governors. Thank you Mo!
Disabled Students’ Officer- Celina Tomas
This year, Celina has been focused on improving accessibility and inclusion for disabled students, in a few different ways! UWE is now part of the Disabled Students’ Commitment, and Celina has been working closely with the Project Manager to consult Disabled Students, and secure an equitable experience for them. Celina contributed to The Students’ Union careers fair in February, organising attendance from a specialist in Access to Work, to ensure disabled students were informed on their rights as graduates entering the workplace. Thank you Celina, for your hard work this year!
Glenside Campus Officer- Swizel Afonso
Swizel has been representing the interests of students based on Glenside, with particular regard for the unique needs of healthcare and mature students. She has worked with the careers team at UWE to tailor the sessions available to Glenside students, looking beyond traditional routes for healthcare graduates and equipping them to access jobs in a rapidly changing sector. Swizel has also supported students through the transition into the new Students’ Union location, organising “cozy socials” and showing students that they belong in the space. We appreciate everything you’ve done this year, Swizel!
International Students’ Officer- Logan Smith
As the International Students’ Officer, Logan has been incredibly supportive to UWE’s community of International students, signposting them to our Advice Centre and UWE’s Immigration and Visa team when they didn’t know who to talk to. He’s enjoyed a close relationship with the Global Cafe team, where he built trusting bonds with staff and students alike. You might have seen him at our Diversity Week events: Logan worked with the outgoing VP Societies and Communication to increase the involvement of National Societies in the Taste of Culture night! Logan has been a pleasure to work with, and we wish him the best of luck for his postgraduate study!
Women’s Welfare Officer- Zarabel Turgut-Cox
Zarabel has been very busy this year! As you may already know, she’s worked for The Students’ Union as a member of casual staff this year, so she’s contributed to your student experience in more ways than one. In her position as the Women’s Welfare Officer, Zarabel was a key part of Women’s History Month, working with Mo and Anya to bring you “Girls’ Night in”. You might have seen her efforts on our Instagram page, where she spotlighted four amazing women studying here at UWE, highlighting Nora, Clara, Georgina and Megan for their contributions to life on campus. You’re amazing, Zarabel!
LGBT+ Officer- Bonnie Evergreen
Bonnie has been working hard this year to bring the needs of LGBT+ students to the forefront of decision making at The Students’ Union. You might have seen her on our Instagram recently, sharing top tips on how to keep well and stay safe if you’re attending Bristol Pride events this summer. When she’s not working on campaigns, she’s been a core support for LGBT+ students who want to make things better at UWE, representing and advocating for them in key meetings. She was re-elected in March during the Student Elections, so we’re looking forward to working with her for the next academic year. See you in September, Bonnie!
Postgraduate Officer- Saliha Sadaf
Saliha began her role as the Postgraduate Officer following our By-Elections, and she’s been fantastic. She’s paid particular attention to the sense of community felt by postgraduate students, working hard to help them feel they belong. She’s created and managed a Whatsapp communtiy to connect students with peers, share useful information, and seek peer support. Aside from this, she was the organiser and event lead for the PG Mixer: a cozy and welcoming event where Masters and PhD students can share experiences and begin to connect at UWE. Working with Student Reps to identify the unique challenges postgraduate students face, Saliha has been truly committed to advocacy, and the improvement of academic and social experiences. Thank you Saliha!
Sustainability Officer- Jack Priestley
Have you seen our Community Garden recently? Thanks to the hard work of the Green Team, supported by the Student Sustainability Engagement Coordinator Toby, and your Sustainability Officer Jack, it’s come back to life! Together, they’ve repaired the planters, cleared dead plants and overgrowth, and planted lots of new crops to enjoy throughout the next year, while spending time in nature. For those who prefer an indoors activity, Jack also planned and delivered the Fairtrade Film Night! This was a screening of “Make the World a Better Place”, held in The Students’ Union, with lots of snacks! Thank you Jack, for showing UWE students how they can consider sustainability, challenge the climate crisis, and have fun while doing it!
Trans Welfare Officer- Harper Leigh
Harper has shown her dedication to the wellbeing of Trans and Non-Binary students this year, including through her work on the Gender Expression Fund! Harper successfully applied for Student Experience Funding, bringing in an additional £3000 to support students for whom their gender identity doesn’t sit comfortably with their sex assigned at birth. This money has been used to provide binders, trans tape, tucking pants, and a fund for students to pay for things like haircuts, makeup and clothing. We know how important it is for students to have their identities recognised and respected, it’s part of belonging. Thank you Harper, for all your hard work and advocacy!
Democratic Procedures Officers- Ahmar Razzaq and Iptiaz Rashid
The role of the Democratic Procedures Officers is to make democratic processes and decision-making fair, transparent, and accessible. Together, the team of Democratic Procedures Officers have engaged students in democracy for the first time, and encouraged them to use their voices. As the Chair of Student Council, Ahmar has facilitated enthusiastic debate from students, ranging across topics from timetabling to Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions, all while maintaining a constructive and respectful environment. We’re extremely appreciative of how hard he has worked to raise awareness and promote engagement with our democratic processes. Thank you, DPOs!
The Part-Time Officers represent specific areas of the student experience. Whether that's an identity like being LGBT+, or a type of study, like being based on Glenside Campus, they're here to make sure your voice is heard.
Think you have what it takes to be a PTO in 2026/2027? Run in our Bye-Elections this Autumn!
