๐ Celebrating Diversity, Empowering Societies: UWE’s 2025 Highlights ๐
This year has been full of exciting events, big wins, and amazing student-led initiatives across all UWE campuses. From an expanded Diversity Day to new funding for societies, here’s a quick look at what’s been happening in 2025 so far๐
๐ Diversity Day Just Got Bigger!
What started as a one-day event at Frenchay has grown into a three-day, multi-campus celebration of culture, creativity, and community! ๐
Over 20 societies took part, sharing food, traditional clothing, and music. ๐ฅ Student performers brought dance and music from all over the world, and contributors from No More Silence magazine shared powerful student-written pieces. ๐๐ค
๐ Societies Awards—Now with Cash Prizes! ๐ธ
This year, recognition turned into real rewards. For the first time ever, the “Society of the Year” award includes funding to support future projects! ๐ฏ
Two additional funding prizes were added in other categories too. Since the announcement, society nominations have surged—and the competition has never been more exciting. ๐
๐ค Societies Are Thriving!
As of March 30, total memberships hit 3,014—a 3% increase from last year! ๐ We've also had 52 new society applications since the start of the academic year, including:
๐ง Academic Societies:
๐ Cultural & Faith Societies:
So far, 100+ society-run events have taken place across campuses—film nights, mixers, hackathons, guest lectures… you name it. ๐ฌ๐พ๐ค
๐ฑ Going Green & Giving Back
Sustainability and student wellbeing took centre stage this year too:
โป๏ธ Partnered with SU Sustainability Lead Sandrine to promote a Climate Education Course for student leaders.
๐ In response to the Myanmar earthquake, the SU hosted a support event with counselling, chaplaincy, and student services to help students affected by the crisis. Peer support, info on hardship funds, and fundraising stalls were all part of it. ๐ฌ๐
๐ฎ Game On: E-Sports Society Update
The E-Sports Society has been working hard to get a dedicated space for weekly gaming and tournaments. ๐ฎ I’ve spoken with UWE’s Space Management team—while no rooms are free yet, a big presentation is scheduled for 1 May to push for a shared studio space. Fingers crossed! ๐ค๐ฝ
2025 is shaping up to be an inspiring year for UWE students—full of connection, creativity, and collaboration. Let’s keep the momentum going! ๐ซ๐ช
