π£οΈ Student Council 2025: A Year of Impact, Sports, and Student Voice π
Hey everyone! As my time on the Student Council comes to a close, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what has been an incredibly rewarding year. From big wins in sports to championing student wellbeing, it’s been an unforgettable journey. Here’s a quick roundup of what we achieved together πͺπ¬
π Varsity 2025 – We Hosted, We Played, We Won!
One of the absolute highlights of the year was hosting the Varsity Games right here at UWE! ποΈ This annual showdown is a massive part of student sporting life, and being the host was a huge honour.
Our UWE athletes didn’t just show up—they showed out, winning big while showcasing amazing sportsmanship and team spirit π₯π½
The energy, the cheering, the pride—it was unforgettable. And it reminded us all just how powerful student unity can be.
π€ NUS Southwest Meeting – Standing Up for Student Rights
Another proud moment was representing UWE at the NUS Southwest Regional Meeting alongside our SU Presidents. This gathering brought together student reps from universities across the region to tackle big issues, like rising rent costs and dodgy landlord practices πΈπ
I shared concerns from UWE students, especially around affordability and accommodation standards. It was eye-opening to see how many of us are facing similar challenges, and even better to work on shared strategies to take back to our universities.
We left the meeting with a plan to push for real change through local lobbying—and a stronger sense of student solidarity across the Southwest. π¬β
πβοΈ 3rd Annual Sports Conference – A Personal Milestone
This year’s Sports Conference was my third—and my most meaningful. I had the chance to speak to attendees and reflect on my goals and growth π£
I talked about expanding inclusive sports opportunities, improving athlete recognition, and increasing participation in campus leagues. We’ve come a long way—from better event coordination to more visibility for student athletes and volunteers. It was a moment of pride, and a reminder of how sport builds community π₯π
π‘ New Ideas, Lasting Impact
Before wrapping up my term, I proposed a few initiatives to boost recreation and wellbeing on campus:
π Basketball hoop at Glenside – A simple, low-cost way to encourage fun and fitness without needing to travel.
ποΈβοΈ Better gym facilities – More inclusive equipment and welcoming spaces so everyone feels comfortable staying active.
π Thank You, UWE
Serving on the Student Council has been an incredible experience. It’s taught me how to listen, lead, and advocate. Whether it was in meetings, at events, or just chatting with fellow students—I always tried to represent you with heart and honesty π
I’m stepping down with pride and gratitude, and I can’t wait to see what the next generation of student leaders will do. Thanks for trusting me—it’s been an honour ππ¬
