The Student Experience Awards were a fantastic success, we're here to congratulate our winners once more!
What a lovely night!
On the evening of Wednesday 13 May, 150 members of our UWE community gathered at the Mount Without on St Michael’s Hill to celebrate success.
This included members Students’ Union and UWE staff, Gold Student Reps, our full-time Sabbatical Officers and Part Time Officers, as well as family, friends and some very special guests. We were thrilled to welcome the Vice-Chancellor Steve West, and Aisha Thomas: the founder of Representation Matters. Aisha is an educational activist specialising in race and anti-racist practice. As an alumnus of UWE Bristol, she attended the Student Experience Awards as a special guest, presenting the first-ever Aisha Thomas Award for anti-racism work at UWE.
Over the course of the evening, we handed out 18 awards to some very deserving winners: people who have been brave, passionate, and who have worked hard to make UWE an even better place to work and study.
We would like to once again extend a heartfelt thanks to all the people who make the Student Experience Awards possible: The Vice-Chancellor's Executive, all Directors of Learning and Teaching, our Students’ Union colleagues, and the amazing students of UWE.

We were thrilled by the positive response to the event, especially because sustainability was centred through every stage of the planning and execution. At the SU, we mapped the event against all 17 Sustainable Development Goals to ensure the event was meaningfully aligned with our commitment to sustainability. This included working with a local sustainable catering company, pricing our tickets to support students’ budget needs, and celebrating excellence in Wellbeing, Quality Education, Reduced Inequalities, and Climate Action.
We received a fantastic 256 nominations for this year’s Student Experience Awards. It was a true pleasure to read each nomination, and learn about the wonderful things happening at UWE Bristol. In addition to the winners of the awards, we’d like to once again congratulate every person who was shortlisted or nominated. It’s a fantastic achievement to be recognised for your efforts.
Thank you to the Mount Without for hosting us, and to Kate’s Kitchen for providing dinner for 150 guests: as always, the food was delicious and incredibly well received. Thank you also to Bristol Design Forge for creating our physical awards, to Andrew from FineTime Photography, and to Lizzie Goldsack for videography.
Thank you to Yasandu Kalansooriyage and Morgan Williams. These UWE students served as our pianists for the Student Experience Awards, and they were truly fantastic. Staff and students alike were impressed not only by their musical talent, but also by the conscientious and professional manner that they demonstrated. They were both exemplary, and it was an honour to highlight the talent that exists amongst our students. Special thanks are also in order for Gareth Ashworth along with the Centre for Music, who generously loaned the equipment for these performances.
