UWE Bristol and The Students’ Union are proud to be Responsible Futures Winners for the academic years 2024-26, the fifth time we have achieved this accreditation, audited every other year since 2016.
This accreditation reflects the institution and The Students’ Union’s shared commitment to embedding holistic sustainability across the formal, informal and subliminal curriculum.
Umar Abassi, Vice President Societies and Communication at The Students’ Union 2024-2026, commented: "We are thrilled to be awarded the Responsible Futures accreditation for the fifth academic year in a row. It is paramount to the dedication and passion that the partnership has to embedding sustainability into the student experience. As VP Societies and Communication at The Students’ Union and the president lead on sustainability, it is an honour to be part of this work."
“I believe the Partnership is making a strong effort to embed sustainability as a core principle within formal education, while also actively supporting student-led initiatives in informal learning spaces. This dual approach reflects a genuine commitment to integrating sustainability across both structured curriculum and broader student experiences,” added a Student Auditor, 2025 Responsible Futures Audit UWE Bristol.
Responsible Futures offers a framework and certification of a whole institution’s commitment to sustainability, and having an enabling environment for it to thrive, rather than an endpoint. Following an audit led by students trained by SOS-UK, UWE Bristol and The Students’ Union at UWE were rewarded the Responsible Futures Accreditation for their achievements.
Amira Campbell, SOS UK Trustee and 2024-2026 NUS National President, said: “Congratulations to University of the West of England and The Students’ Union on your fifth Responsible Futures audit. Thank you for your continued commitment to empowering students to develop skills and knowledge needed for a more sustainable and just world and to continue progressing and improving this important work.”
