The Students' Union
This year, more students than ever have been speaking up, getting support and shaping their experience at UWE.
Our Advice Centre has had a record-breaking year. Not only did we pass our national quality audit with flying colours, but we’ve been winning big for you behind the scenes. We’ve helped students get deposits back, forced landlords to remove unfair contract clauses, and support students through academic concerns.
Students told us just how much this matters, with feedback highlighting how advice helped them through difficult situations. Whether you’re at Frenchay, Glenside, or Bower Ashton, our team is here to ensure you know your rights as a renter and as a student. We’ve also made it easier to get help, with more on campus drop ins and a simpler online contact form, so support is always within reach.
Students said to us about their support:
“I just want to say thank you for your support, I truly appreciate it.”
“Thank you for your help, the advice has been really helpful and supportive.”
“It was a very difficult day, but having your guidance really helped me get through it.”
“Truly I appreciate the length you have gone to hear me out and support me.”
Representation isn't just a buzzword; it's about making your course better. This year, we’ve trained 959 Student Reps—that is a 6% jump from last year. We now have representatives in 77% of all courses at UWE, meaning your feedback on everything from lecture quality to assessment deadlines is getting straight to the people who make the decisions. Our 29 trained Lead School Reps met with 220 student reps to gather direct feedback ahead of School Board of Study to ensure that a diverse voice was heard in those meetings and not just their own experiences. Because of your feedback, our Student Voice satisfaction scores have jumped by 6%, proving that when you speak, the University listens.
There are now more ways to get involved and share your views, whether that’s through the Student Consultation Panel (with 442 student members), live events or surveys. Hundreds of students have already fed into changes on key topics like assessment feedback and wellbeing support.
We’ve also launched new projects to support Degree Apprentices and postgraduate researchers, making sure every part of our diverse community is represented.
And it doesn’t stop there. Student leaders are taking their ideas straight into meetings with University decision makers, helping shape real change. With new pathways being developed, it’s now easier than ever to get involved, build your skills and make a difference.
Your feedback is the reason we exist. Whether you want to become a Rep, join a consultation session, or just need some expert advice, we are here to support your journey. Let’s keep making UWE Bristol better, together.
