The Students’ Union wins NUS Green Impact Award

The Presidents with The NUS Green Impact Award

The Students’ Union has been recognised for our commitment to sustainability after receiving the overall Green Impact Award for a commercial union at the National Union of Students (NUS) Awards, which took place at the NEC in Birmingham on 5 July.

We received the accolade after being awarded an ‘Excellent’ accreditation in the category, which recognises organisations that make meaningful and sustainable changes to the environment. Special recognition was given to us for embedding sustainability in all that we do, in line with our Strategic Plan and in partnership with the University.

Only eight other unions received the ‘excellent’ rating, with The Students’ Union achieving a score of 406 – 92% above the average score.

In order to achieve this we worked with the student movement through an action plan from NUS, making changes throughout all departments; from staff training to using sustainable suppliers and reducing waste.

Rachel Colley, Community Manager, commented: “This award comes as a result of the passion and hard work of students and staff at UWE Bristol and The Students’ Union.

“It is a fantastic starting point to continually strive forward to ensure we are sector leading on sustainability and matching our students’ passion for creating a positive future for us and for future generations to enjoy.”
