It is already the end of my first month as The Students’ Union President. Can you believe it? Asides from working on my manifesto point there has also been training, inductions and relationship building with many stakeholders across UWE Bristol and The Students’ Union. Here are a few of my highlights for July.
South West Regional Sabbatical Officer Training
From the 2 - 3 July the Presidents Team attended a South West Regional Training in Exeter. This was a fantastic opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with the Presidents and Sabbatical Officers from other universities in the region.
The 3 - 4 July consisted of an Academic Board and the Board of Governors meetings, which discussed key matters relating to student academics and UWE Bristol stakeholders. So, with a regional training day and two highly important meetings, you could say my first week was a big one!
It was then time for UWE Bristol to host the 2019 BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) Conference, for the second consecutive year. Below is a sneaky pic Josh and I managed to get with one of the keynote speakers Ben Ryan. Ben is a rugby union coach who has taken his team to several titles and has won a gold medal in sevens rugby, with Fiji at the Rio Olympics 2016.
Team Away Day
We then had two lovely days of training out of office in Tortworth. At the training, we learnt about our various strengths and best ways to work as a team, (because we all know teamwork makes the dream work!)
During the graduation period, we celebrated 4185 graduates over 27 ceremonies and here is another congratulations to you all! I also had the honour of presenting a gift to Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Jane Harrington.
Police Apprenticeship course launch
I joined the celebration of the launch of the new Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship course, at our Glenside Campus. This is a three year course accredited by the College of Policing. This partnership between Avon and Somerset Constabulary and UWE Bristol is the first time in the south west where police learning is gained at a degree level apprenticeship.
Remember, I am here to represent the UWE Bristol student community, feel free to pop into The Students’ Union on Frenchay Campus to see me or catch me at our satellite campuses during one of my pop-ups.
You can contact me via firstname.lastname@example.org and on Facebook and Twitter.
