Growing up in Thailand, I became accustomed to the convenience of a 24-hour corner shop called 7/11. This experience inspired my idea of providing students with a 24-hour convenience store offering Asian drinks and snacks. I find that vending machine options often lack variety and satisfaction. As a student who frequently studies late into the night, I sometimes crave cold drinks to help refresh myself. Additionally, the fact that Morrisons closes early makes it challenging for late-night study students like me to find food.

Actions Taken

  • This idea opened on 2 December 2024 and closes for voting on 6 January 2025.
  • February 2025 - The Executive and Student Council agreed to pass this Idea. This Idea is now Students’ Union policy and has been sent to The Executive for work to begin.
  • July 2025 - This Idea has been declined by the Board of Trustees - it is not financially viable to provide such a service. However the Board will invite the students to identify what specific 24/7 offer is needed given options already available locally to see if we can lobby the university if a clear need is identified.

8:18pm on 2 Dec 24 I love the idea, had so many instances of staying late at the library to study and have no snacks or amenities without going back home, especially now living off campus

6pm on 2 Dec 24 This is a great idea I am usually out of snacks and things to keep me going through the night. I’d love someplace I can go out without worrying about the timing restrictions.

4:14pm on 2 Dec 24 excellent idea since the campus is so far away from 24/7 shops in town
