Student Reps are chosen through elections, or by staff asking for students to express an interest in the role. Student Reps should be selected at the start of a new academic year, or at the beginning of your course if you don't start in September.
Student Reps repesent everyone on your year of study, so it's preferable that your classmates vote for their Student Rep: it's great for them to have a say in who represents them! Ideally, there should be 1 Student Rep for every 25 students on your year of study for your course. This means there could very well be multiple Student Reps needed!
They might facilitate an election, or encourage you to sign yourself up
Fill in the Student Rep form, so we have you in our records and can contact you throughout the academic year. This is also where you'll sign up to a training session.
The Student Rep training is mandatory, and you will not be an official Student Rep until you've completed it. We offer a variety of sessions, with flexible times and locations (including online!) so there's a training slot for everyone.
When you've completed all three steps, you'll be one of over 1000 Student Reps ready to represent the academic interests of your cohort, and also eligible for our excclusive Student Rep benefits!

If you have not attended Student Rep training by The Students' Union before, you must attend a two hour training session to officially become a Student Rep and to be added to the Student Rep Database.
Training sessions will be available to book in Autumn 2026.
